TAKE ME TO NEW YORK

Can't wait for NY in less than two months - Running away to the city that never sleeps.

28.05.16

Ever feel like you've got the weight of the whole world on your shoulder? And you feel like all you want to do is run, far away from all your problems and people that are making you unhappy? Feeling like you're alone in this and everything feels like it's entirely too much?

Believe me, you're not alone in this. But knowing that also doesn't help does it? Do you know what will though? Let me just tell you, everything will be okay. It might not be right this moment, it might not even be tomorrow, or the week after, but it definitely will be okay. Do you know why? Simply because everyday you don't give up and don't give in, you're becoming stronger.

Here's a little fact about life - It sucks sometimes. Really, it does. And we get hurt, and we face situations that break us down. And we think, surely there's no way out of this, surely it can't get better. But those thoughts are just in your own head. The second you control your thoughts and think, 'You know what, I can do this, it's not going to be easy, it might even be the hardest thing I've ever done, but I've got this and I'm going to make it through it', your whole perspective on things will begin to change.

It's up to you to change your 'I can't' to 'I can.' Because you can.

First lesson to getting through a tough time to is to stop feeling sorry about ourselves and blaming everyone else for how things have turned out. We can't change other people, but we can change ourselves for the better. Things that happen to us don't change, but we are the ones solely responsible for controlling how we face a situation.

One thing to remember is that everyone copes with a situation differently. I break down sometimes, I cry. I write, like I am right now, and sometimes I just go for a drive to clear my head. Whatever you do to face a situation is okay. It's okay to be weak, because your strength comes from it. How can you possibly know what strength even is, if you don't let yourself be weak? But weakness is not the same thing as feeling sorry for ourselves though.

What you need to know is that we can't be upset about things that are not within our control. The only thing we can control is ourselves, and that's exactly what we should do. We also can't expect immediate results. Facing a situation and healing is going to take some time. And that's okay. Because like I said, the longer it takes, the tougher you become.

The next time you feel weak, or feeling like the whole world is against you, remember, YOU are not against you. In fact, you are there to pick yourself up.

You are meant for greatness. Do not let setbacks stand in the way of you being amazing! What you're facing right now is nothing but a moment in time, all part of the journey. You're responsible for getting to the destination you want. And when you do, you'll feel incredible, knowing you passed a whole lot of hurdles and challenges to get there. You'll appreciate it a whole lot more, knowing things weren't easy.

Believe me, you've got this. So take a breath, and get ready to face the world. It's been waiting for you to unleash your inner power. It's been waiting for you to make a difference.

Right this moment, you have inside of you, everything you need to do deal with whatever the world can throw at you.

So go out there, and show them what you can do.

To all my beautiful readers,

I received a piece of advice today that really changed my perspective on things. It made me genuinely smile and it's a little life lesson that I thought I'll share with you all.

That lesson is that, it's actually okay for you to care about something or someone as much as you do. Regardless of the circumstances. Here's the thing, we've all faced situations where we've been hurt, we've been battered down and we think things just cannot get any worse. When that happens, we always end up telling ourselves that we care entirely too much and maybe if we didn't, it wouldn't be as painful. We have other people telling us the exact same thing, telling us to stop caring and be strong instead. What I learned is that, strength doesn't come from a person changing themselves or becoming a harsher person, strength comes from them caring about the situation, from being forgiving, from accepting things as they come and facing those difficult situations anyway.

Truth is, people are going to hurt you. Certain situations are going to break you. Life is going to turn you on your head when you least expect it. That doesn't mean you should change yourself though, you can learn from it, grow as a person. But it doesn't mean you should change all the beautiful values and qualities that make you, you. Most importantly, it doesn't mean you should stop caring. It's really okay for things to not go your way, sometimes it may seem unfair, but that doesn't mean what's around the corner isn't going to change your life for the better.

Even though you've faced these difficult circumstances, it hasn't destroyed you. That's because you're better than that. You're stronger than that. It takes a lot of heart to forgive people, to not hold a grudge, to want the best for people that may have hurt you.

You care too much, about the people that are in your life and the people that you loved in the past, and that's okay. It's not your weakness, it's your strength. Do not let your negative experiences turn your heart into stone. Learn from it, let it transform you into a better person. Everything that happens in life are learning opportunities.

So keep being you, keep loving, keep caring, keep being strong.

Here's the advice I received - 'Never stop caring and loving with that big, beautiful heart of yours. Because for the right person, you won't be too much. You will be the perfect amount.'

Love always,
Neth

THINGS I WANT TO LEARN

Happy Monday to all my beautiful readers! I hope your week is off to a great start!

Winter Blues are hitting me hard this year so I've taken some time from my hectic schedule to reflect on things I can do to cope up with all the stress that I've been facing lately. I've come to the conclusion that letting my mind wonder off doesn't always end well. See, I have this problem that many of you can probably relate to, and that my dear is overthinking. Yep, not a good habit, at all. Don't get me wrong, overthinking also means that I tend to be very detail orientated which is one of my strengths but when I give into my critical mind, I tend to second guess things and that doesn't lead to many positive experiences. In order to combat my little problem, I've decided that I want to distract myself by learning new things! Things that I've always wanted to do but never really got around to doing. Things that will help me be more positive in my everyday life.

So here's a little list of things or habits that I want to take up doing, that you might also consider. Honestly, it's never too late to improve your skills!

MEDITATION

Can't really stress the benefits of this enough. I've decided that I want to start off by spending 10 to 15 minutes of everyday, most likely at night, meditating and collecting my thoughts. This legitimately helps keep your mind from wondering off, but also calms you enough that you get a good night's rest and wake up feeling refreshed for the day! It's such a great technique to keep yourself from facing anxiety and to improve emotional stability. Not only does it lead to increased happiness, but also has amazing physical benefits like increasing your energy levels, improving your immune system and decreasing any muscle pains or headaches, to name a few. So it's a great habit to develop, wins all around really.

COOKING

I'm really excited for this! I've always loved baking, but as embarrassing as it is to admit, I've never really attempted cooking proper dishes. So I'm looking forward to making some delicious (or not so delicious, let's face it, there's going to be some failed attempts) and nutritious meals, from a range of cultures including Sri Lankan! I'll keep you updated on my progress on this, can't wait to make some Instagram worthy dishes!

PHOTOGRAPHY AND GRAPHIC DESIGN

I'm really looking forward to finding my own photography style and also to improve my Photoshop and Illustrator skills. I'm sure it'll take some time but not only is it going to help me with my blogging but it's definitely going to help me strengthen my creative skills as a future Marketer!

HIP-HOP

That's right, super excited to take up dancing again! Except this time I'm trying something different! I love dancing, I love the energy and the way it makes me feel! Such a great way to stay fit and doing it with friends make it that much more fun! I'm not saying I'll be good at this, but I'm saying I'm going to laugh at myself and work at it. Good vibes all around.

DRAWING

I've always loved sketching and drawing, but gave it up because I never really had time for it. But I've decided that I'm going to make time to do this because it's something I love and also because it relaxes me. I'm currently working on drawing some pieces for decoration purposes and I'll definitely share my progress on this with you all too.

There you go lovelies, just a few things that I thought I would make time to do to make myself happier and to improve my skills. Never too late to take up doing something you love. Are there any things that you want to improve or learn? Just remember that even if it's something little, always take the time and opportunity to invest in yourself.

Talk soon!

CUT-OUT

Happy Sunday!

I hope all of you are having a relaxing weekend and taking some time off for yourself before starting another busy week.

If you follow me on Instagram (shameless self shout-out here), you'll know that I'm currently obsessed with toned down, neutral colours! So that is exactly what I went for with this look, with a Camel, White, Tan and Black combo. I love Autumn/Winter style, at least it gives me something to look forward to rather than worry about the rainy, gloomy days ahead.

I love Culottes, and when I found this pair with the gorgeous cut-out detail from Seed, I instantly fell in love! I'm also obsessed with my Inspire pouch from Mimco, 100% of the profits from these go towards Our Watch, an organization that fights violence against women. Please do check it out if you can, it's such a worthy cause and I can guarantee that you will not regret purchasing from the Mimco x Our Watch collection!

Let me know what you think of this look!

Love always,
Neth

BLACK IS THE NEW BLACK

Hi lovelies!

Happy April!!! I hope you all have an amazing and productive month ahead. A new month always means a fresh start, so here's me trying my hardest to get back to blogging!

I have a confession to make, the truth is I'm currently suffering from an unknown medical condition and I have to say unknown because I have had this since 2011, and despite all kinds of tests, the doctors still don't know what exactly the problem is. It's gotten quite awful since the start of this year, and I've ended up in hospital multiple times and it has definitely got in the way of my uni, work, social life, and of course, my blogging. I'm sorry that I can't post regularly, but I will keep trying my best. Just bare with me for the moment, until I get my health back on track. I love all of my readers that take the time to visit my blog and I would hate for you think I've abandoned my blog!

With that in mind, here's a look I wore to a meeting the other day! I was in my 'all Black everything' mood so that's exactly what happened! Black is, and always will be the most chic colour and lately I've been opting for monochrome and neutral tones. I went for a smart casual look and paired my oversized blazer and a basic cami top with my coated leather leggings and heels. While the leggings and cami are casual, the heels and the blazer dresses up the whole outfit to give more of a corporate vibe!

Let me know what you think!

Love always,
Neth

STYLE FILE: BLAKE LIVELY

New York Fashion Week 2016 was as glorious as ever, and if there was one person that stood out amongst the rest, it was none other than the flawless Blake Lively. I've always lusted after her wardrobe; the way she mixes her girly style filled with pastel colours, with chic and trendy accessories has always put her on our best dressed list. Not only does she nail street style, but her choices in evening wear has earned her the the title 'Beyonce of the Red Carpets' for a reason. From her signature fedoras, oversized coats down to her pointed toe heels, here's how to replicate some of Miss Lively's style staples.

LACE AFFAIR

Hi my loves!

As promised, here is a look that I put together for Valentine's Day - it's sweet, girly and perfect for both day and night! I'm not really a fan of Lace, but I couldn't help but fall in love with this top when I saw it! Hope you like it as much as I do! It's sold out online but still available in store at Forever New. The Chic Skirt from Kookai is no longer available in Pink but is still available in a range of other colours. I do adore these Rose Gold and White leather heels from Wittner, they just matched perfectly with this outfit.

Have a fabulous Valentine's Day darlings!

Love,
Neth

PERFECT MATCH

Hello ladies!

Hope you're all having an amazing week! With Valentine's Day just around the corner, I thought it'll be nice to start posting some V-Day outfit inspo for you.

Whether you're spending the night in with your man or going to a nice dinner, or even just going out for the night with your best ladies, Valentine's is one day you want to look your best! I love Valentine's Day, because any excuse I can use to get dressed up really. The perfect V-Day outfit starts with the perfect lingerie! More importantly, the perfect bra!

The fabulous team at ThirdLove have come up with a fun little quiz to help you decide what your perfect bra is for the night! As I'm a sucker for Netflix and Cheesecake (any time of cake really), my LBD and of course the leading man in my life, the 24/7 Isn't She Lovely Lace is the perfect fit for me. I can't decide between classic Black and the stunning Berry colour so it looks like I'll be purchasing the three pack gift-set. Because what girl can ever have too many bras?

If you're unsure about your fit, well that's something that ThirdLove does best! Their innovative app let's you measure your cup-size in less than 5 minutes and as all the reviews would tell you, it's extremely accurate! And the best part is that it's free! You can download the app here. I have taken the measurements myself and it was the easiest process, and don't worry the app doesn't store or view any of the photos you take, in fact, they're not even stored in your camera roll on your phone. So give it a go, because as you ladies would know, a perfectly fitted bra is a godsend gift. Oh and did I mention that they have half-sizes? Here's to no awkward straps, uncomfortable cups and underwires!

Now for the best part, on behalf of ThirdLove and I, we'd like to give you a little present ourselves! Head over to ThirdLove and enter the code VALENTINE15 to get 15% off all orders! Because you're all my valentines! (Too cheesy?)

Lots of love,
Neth

STUDY DECOR INSPIRATION

I believe that your study space says a lot about you - how organised you are, what kind of a planner you are, and just generally about how you let your creativity flow! I personally tend to prefer studying with books scattered on my bed with my Macbook on my lap - but this is a habit that I'm thinking of ditching this year. I've been looking at recreating my study space and thought I'd share some inspiration I've found with you. Your study doesn't have to be big and cluttered in anyway, a little corner, filled with pretty stationary and things that inspire you is really all you need. And even if you're like me and tend to study better off the table, well, at least you have a gorgeous space to look at.

COLOUR ME HAPPY

I was pretty excited when Pantone announced not one, but two colours for 2016 and they're two colours that can so easily be integrated into our daily lives in the form of what we wear, down to decorating our living spaces. Rose Quartz and Serenity, two very calming and happy colours, can be worn with subtle colours such as White and Grey, as well as together. Here are some of my favourite picks in both colours including Sephora and Pantone's Colour of The Year Layer Lipstick - a match made in beauty heaven!

10.01.16

Some photos from my stay at Jungle Beach resort in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka, a truly incredible place to visit. It's one of the most relaxing places I've been to and I encourage anyone travelling to Sri Lanka to visit this resort. Not only is the service great and but there's also plenty to do like exploring the wildlife around the area, snorkelling and going on the bike trail around the beach. The atmosphere is wonderful with its cool breeze and you can choose to dine on the beach under a sky full of stars. I did a lot of reading and planning while sitting on the beach listening to the soothing sounds of the waves and I can truly say that I had never been more calm and happy.

LEOPARD

Happy new year my lovelies!

Firstly, I hope you all have an amazing year and that it brings you loads of joy, love and success! I'm so excited for 2016 and just starting fresh altogether, and it's one of my main goals this year to update content on the blog more regularly for you!

Here's a very girly look that I wore on one of my travel visits to Sri Lanka's Galle Fort, a place filled with Colonial architecture and Dutch history! I loved taking photographs for this post because I got the opportunity to work in some of the Fort's architecture into it. If you would like to read more about the location, you can visit here.

I hope you like this top and skirt combo, it's just fun and flirty and I love the print on the top! The top is from Forever New and is sadly sold out. The pouch came with my Saint Laurent Large Shopping Tote and I absolutely adore it. I love the Peplum hem skirt from Kookai, it gives a more feminine look than a normal pencil skirt, and is perfect for both work and play.

Well, that's it for now, speak soon!

Have a fantastic year ahead!

Love always,
Neth
